Some fans know Glenn Howerton only as Dennis Reynolds, the pompous bartender of Paddy’s Pub, and that’s exactly why so many searches about the actor end up tangled in fiction. The real Howerton, according to his Apple TV biography, was born in Japan and grew up in several countries before settling in Alabama. This guide separates those verified details from the recurring health, departure, wife, and nationality rumors that keep orbiting the show.

- The FX cast page still lists Howerton as Dennis Reynolds, which undercuts the departure rumor at the official source (FX Networks cast page).

What is Glenn Howerton’s illness?
There is no confirmed diagnosis. A health-rumor roundup from Canadiandata.net says the available search results do not provide reliable evidence that Howerton has a chronic illness, and none of the official profiles reviewed for this article mention any medical condition.
Is Glenn Howerton a smoker?
- No credible public source confirms that Howerton smokes.
- His smoking status is not stated in the biography or casting listings used here.
Does Glenn Howerton have a known health condition?
- The evidence-backed answer is no confirmed condition.
- He remains an active credited lead on It’s Always Sunny, according to the FX Networks cast page.
Dennis is written as a narcissistic, calculating character on the show, according to Disney+’s Sunny overview — that is a performance, not a medical record.
What this means: the illness question currently has a source-based answer of “no reliable evidence,” and the actor’s active workload makes a dramatic health break even less likely.
Did Glenn Howerton try to leave It’s Always Sunny?
The short answer is no, based on the official record reviewed here. The FX Networks cast page still lists Howerton as Dennis Reynolds, and no network announcement or cast interview in the supplied research documents a departure.
Why did Dennis leave It’s Always Sunny?
- He did not: the character is still listed as Howerton’s role on the FX cast page.
- The co-creator history also cuts against the rumor: Howerton co-developed the show with Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney, according to his Apple TV biography.
Why did they replace Dee on Always Sunny?
- They did not: Kaitlin Olson still appears as Dee on the official cast page.
Does Dennis wear a wig in Always Sunny?
- Unverified: no cast interview or official production note in the supplied sources answers the wig question.
A show built on absurd characters invites conspiracy theories, but the cast page is the most recent official word: Dennis is still there.
The pattern: “Dennis leaves” is a fan narrative, not a documented event.
Was Glenn Howerton’s wife in Always Sunny?
Glenn Howerton’s wife is Jill Latiano, an actress and dancer. The verified record confirms the marriage and the couple’s two sons, but it does not confirm a Sunny cameo.
Who is Glenn Howerton’s wife?
- Jill Latiano is listed as Howerton’s wife on the IMDb profile.
- The same profile says the couple has two sons.
Did Jill Latiano appear on It’s Always Sunny?
- The supplied source set does not include a verified Sunny credit for Latiano, so a cameo should not be stated as fact.
Fans want on-set family cameos to be real, but the verified record only confirms the marriage and children, not an on-screen appearance.
The trade-off: a marriage certificate and an episode credit are two different documents, and only one of them is confirmed here.
Is Glenn Howerton Japanese?
No. Howerton is American. The “Japanese” question comes from his birthplace, but the biography record is explicit about nationality.
Where was Glenn Howerton born?
- He was born in Japan, according to his Apple TV biography.
Is Glenn Howerton American?
- Yes. His Wikipedia biography identifies him as an American actor, comedian, writer, and producer.
The same Apple TV biography says Howerton grew up in several countries, including England and South Korea, before his family settled in Montgomery, Alabama. Nationality and birthplace are different data points: Japan is the birthplace; American is the nationality.
A birthplace in Japan explains the frequent Japanese question, but it does not change the documented nationality.
Why this matters: the facts only conflict if “born in” and “is a national of” are treated as the same thing.
Who is the most popular character in Always Sunny?
There is no official answer, and that is the only verifiable one.
Who is the funniest character in It’s Always Sunny?
- Subjective: no official ranking exists in the supplied sources.
- The show’s official materials highlight Dennis’s D.E.N.N.I.S. seduction system, but “funniest” is still a viewer call (Disney+ overview).
Who is older, Dee or Dennis?
- Dee and Dennis are twins, so any older-twin claim must come from episode dialogue rather than a biography page.
What is the highest rated Always Sunny episode?
- IMDb’s episode ratings are the usual reference, but no specific title is verified in the supplied research for this article.
Fandom is not a source; the only way to settle “best” is to pick a metric and then argue about it.
The catch: popularity questions are entertainment, not record-keeping.
Timeline signal
Three periods mark the arc of Howerton’s career, and each one appears in a separate official or public listing.
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| 2002 | Onscreen debut in Monday Night Mayhem as Dick Ebersol (Apple TV biography) |
| 2005 | It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia premieres (IMDb title page) |
| 2023 | Appears in BlackBerry (Disney+ overview) |
The implication: Howerton’s career is a slow build from TV movie to sitcom fixture, and the steady list of credits makes a sudden exit rumor look thinner.
Confirmed facts vs. still unclear

- Born April 13, 1976 (Wikipedia biography).

What’s still unclear
- Health condition: no confirmed diagnosis exists in the public record (Canadiandata.net health-rumor roundup).
- Smoking status: not publicly verified in the supplied biographies.
- Departure rumor: no documented network or cast announcement supports it (FX Networks cast page).
- Wig question: no official production note addresses it.
- Older-twin question: depends on episode dialogue, not biography data.

The cosmetic-surgery allegations are speculative and are not supported by confirmation from Howerton or a medical professional.
What this means: the official record is consistent about Howerton’s professional life; the speculative claims sit outside it.
When a “Glenn Howerton illness” or “Dennis leaves Sunny” headline lands in a feed, ask whether the claim names a doctor, a network, or a cast member. Without one of those, it is likely the same low-signal rumor that has been circling for years. For fans, the choice is simple: keep quoting Dennis while remembering the actor behind him has stayed on the show throughout its run — or let a search query rewrite a life story that no source has confirmed.
